Use and Care

Warning! These are not intended to be used on live electrical parts, energized or live electrical wiring or electrical panels. Doing so can cause serious injury, damage to the electrical components or death. We will not be responsible for your actions or stupidity.

Additional Disclaimer:
Wiring sizes range in thicknesses due to age and manufacturer. While these are fairly accurate, they cannot be guaranteed to provide accurate information for all conditions, and should be used as a guide. We do not guarantee accuracy. with older wires.

However, since new wire is smaller, you can be assured that the older stuff should be at least the size you are expecting. A modern #12 will be slightly smaller, so the old #12 will be between an 12 and 10 slot on the gauge.

Directions:

Turning off electrical power and wearing the correct PPE equipment should occur before any attempts to use this product.!!! Failure to take these steps first, could result in damage, injury or electrocution.

Wire gauges are intended for measuring wires with the insulation on. Checking wires that are bare or exposed can be dangerous.

The gauges are designed to determine sizing by a visual reference, or a simply GO-NO GO check.

DO NOT FORCE THE GAUGES ON THE WIRING! If they don't fit easily, or if you have to cram them on, then either the wire is an older style with larger insulation or you have the wrong size.

3  red gauges for the copper wiring
Gauge 1: Wire sizes are #14, #12, #10, #8
Gage 2: Wire sizes are #6, #4, #2, #1
Gauge 3: Wire Sizes are #1-0 and #2-0

2  silver gauges for stranded aluminum wiring.
Gauge 1: Wire sizes are #6, #4, #2, #1
Gauge 2: #2-0 and #4-0

2  Green Gauges for older copper wire (1950's through 1980's)
Gauge 1: Wire sizes are #14, #12, #10, #8
Gage 2: Wire sizes are #6, #4, #2, #1

Do not force or bent the gauges. Forcing or bending will cause them to break or cause damage to objects that are in contact.

Keep stored out of direct sunlight. Direct prolong sun exposure can cause warping. For example: Don't leave them on a hot dashboard in your vehicle all afternoon, or you could find a banana when you return.

Please note. The gauges will work on most modern NM and THHN wiring.  These will not work on older NM wiring dating to the 50’s ad 60’s and 70's. Older wires have thicker insulation, and will allow the gauges to be accurate. Since they are larger, you can assume that they should be sufficient for the size intended.
